Separately unrelated I saw a 27 yo male and a 32 yo female in the ER last month -- both with shingles. I then saw the 8 mo child of the male later in the month with chickenpox. In the past I have seen 40 yo with shingles - these were younger than I've seen personally. I will look at the records to see the age and frequency of shingles over the past 10 years here to look closer at the numbers. On a separate note, this speaks to insurance that follows ACIP guidelines. Guidelines are useful, yet there are moments and situations where customized personal treatment that makes sense falls outside the insurance rules. It makes more sense to me to have doctors monitor quality and treatments for quality and following guidelines and look at exceptions to the rules than for insurance companies to "practice medicine" when they can't know the specifics and haven't examined the patient. Finally, Stress is underappreciated for all that it does - and using exercise, yoga, meditation (Headspace or Calm) is a wise way to live to reduce stress and susceptibility to disease.
